On behalf of the VBA and Bowhunting Committee we wish to thank everyone who attended the 17th Annual VBA Awards Banquet. We thank all the organizations and individuals who supplied items for the raffle and silent auction. Special thanks to...

...WACCAMAW HUNTING SERVICES for donation of a hog hunt that was used in the silent auction. Another special thanks goes out to Mr. Matt Knox, Deer Project Coordinator with the VDGIF who put on an extremely interesting discussion about deer history and the program in Virginia. I for one could have listened to him for the whole night. Last but not least, a big hand and thank you to the fine men and women of the Keezletown Ruritan Club who made us feel more like family instead of guests in their “home”. The place had been updated since our last visit and the food, well let’s say, I have a lot of mountains to cover during spring gobbler season to work it off!! The VBA placemats were their contribution and what a surprising personal touch!

I would like to thank the members who brought in the mounts and shared those with everyone. it was such a great thing to see the different animals and styles. Last but not least for this year’s banquet, congratulations to everyone who won awards for their bow kills. Next year we hope to see more winners at the banquet to celebrate with us their success.

I urge each club to remind their members about the awards that can be received for their kills with archery equipment. Please look on the website for details or see one of your officers on the numerous awards you as members can receive for your personal success.

Before this banquet was held I was already making plans for the future and what can we do to bring to you the members something that would spark your interest and involvement. The VBA Bowhunting Committee is taking a look at things to brighten and keep our future secure. We are looking to bring things on board that we think may draw more member participation.

However we cannot do this alone. As I have put out before, we need your input! So, come to a club meeting; get with your representative; volunteer to be a member of the VBA/BHC; email me; call me; but get your voice heard and your ideas out there. So to show that we are sincere in offering you something of interest….. save the date for next year’s banquet. Yes it has already been set! Saturday March 23, 2013 will be the date for the VBA Bowhunting Committee 18th Annual Award Banquet.

It is my extreme pleasure and honor to now announce that next year’s guest speaker will be:

FROM THE OUTDOOR CHANNEL’S DROP ZONE HUNTING TELEVISION SHOW

SHOW HOST MR. HAL SHAFFER

DropZone Shaffer

So mark your calendar, save the date and keep an eye out for further details on the banquet. Come out and meet one of hunting’s top personalities and share an evening of excitement and fellowship. We will be getting more information out to you about the banquet later in the year, but I wanted to share with everyone this exciting information.

We need more members for the Bowhunting Committee so we can handle more challenges. This is just one area we are responsible for not to mention keeping up with such hot topics as Bear, Deer and Elk management plans; Sunday hunting; equipment laws. We need more help to do more, that simple! Please be a part of keeping Bowhunting alive and well and have your voice make the difference, please volunteer and BE ACTIVE!

I’ll see you on the range or in the woods,

Clint Keller
