Olin Bare passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at age 65, while bicycling in nature on the Chessie Trail.  He is survived by his son, Zachary Benjamin Seal of Colorado, and his longtime companion Stephanie Neofotis.  He was born in Lexington at Stonewall Jackson Hospital to the parents Geneva Irene Bare and William Campbell Bare.

He was a member of the Virginia Bowhunters Association (VBA) for years.  Olin accomplished much throughout the years as a Traditional archer and bowhunter.  At the 2016 VBA Spring 3-D Classic, he won the State Championship; in 2015, he placed 3rd; and, in 2012 shot with other Traditional archers.  He is known to harvest several does (in 2017 and in 2014), and a bear in 2013.  Olin wrote many articles for the VBA FLIGHT.  The articles can be found in the following issues:  Winter 2016, Vol. 59, No. 1 on "ISHI, from the Yani Tribe;" the Winter 2013, Vol. 56, No. 1 on "A Bear Story;" the Spring 2011, Vol. 54, No. 1 on "Hear He, Hear He;" the Winter 2010, Vol. 53, No.4 on "A River Buck;" the Fall 2010, Vol. 53, No.1 on "A Very Traditional Archer'" and the Summer 2010, Vol. 53, No. 2 on "A Coyote Hunt."
